Two Lake District Venues Named Among England’s Top 100 For Warm Welcomes

15 Sep 2026 Two Lake District Venues Named Among England’s Top 100 For Warm Welcomes

Two Lake District accommodation providers have been recognised among England’s top 100 venues for delivering exceptional welcomes and visitor experiences.

Skelwith Fold Caravan Park in Ambleside and the self-catering property Mill Pool Barn in Coniston have both been named among the 100 winners of the VisitEngland ROSE Awards. The recognition celebrates accommodation businesses across England where owners, managers and employees are considered to provide particularly high standards of service to visitors.

The awards recognise accommodation providers across a wide range of styles and standards, meaning businesses do not need to hold a particular star rating to be considered. The focus is instead placed on the quality of the welcome and the service provided, alongside the efforts made by accommodation teams to create a positive experience for their guests.

Nominations for the ROSE Awards are generated through annual quality assessment visits carried out by VisitEngland. Assessors observe the standards and service provided by each accommodation business, giving the awards a direct connection with the experience encountered by visitors during their stays.

The assessment process also considers evidence beyond the formal inspection visit. Online customer reviews are taken into account as part of the nomination process, allowing feedback from guests to contribute towards identifying accommodation providers that consistently deliver strong visitor experiences.

Final judging also considers whether businesses demonstrate innovation that helps distinguish them from other accommodation providers. This can include facilities, services or other measures introduced by operators to make a guest’s stay particularly memorable, adding another element to the assessment beyond basic accommodation standards.

For the Lake District, the recognition places two local accommodation businesses among a national group of 100 winners. Skelwith Fold Caravan Park, located in Ambleside, has been recognised alongside Mill Pool Barn in Coniston, highlighting the contribution made by accommodation providers in different parts of the area.

The awards cover different forms of visitor accommodation and are not limited to one particular type of stay. The national programme recognises businesses ranging from glamping and bed and breakfast accommodation to country pubs with rooms and self-catering cottages, reflecting the variety of options available to visitors across England.

VisitEngland director Andrew Stokes said the ROSE Awards showcase the quality of accommodation available across England. He highlighted the people working behind the businesses, recognising those who make additional efforts to provide strong customer service, innovative options and a welcoming experience for visitors.

Stokes also said accommodation plays an important role in the wider visitor experience because where people stay forms a central part of their trip. He linked the work of accommodation providers with tourism and the benefits that visitor spending can bring to communities, making the standard of service an important part of the wider tourism offer.

The recognition comes as a result of a process that combines professional assessment with evidence from customers and consideration of individual businesses’ approach to visitor service. For the two Cumbrian winners, being included among the 100 recipients reflects the standards observed during assessment as well as the experiences reported by guests.

The inclusion of both Skelwith Fold Caravan Park and Mill Pool Barn also demonstrates the breadth of accommodation represented within the awards. One is a caravan park in Ambleside, while the other is a self-catering property in Coniston, showing that recognition is available across different accommodation models and styles.

The ROSE Awards therefore provide national recognition for businesses whose service and visitor experience stand out within England’s accommodation sector. With two Lake District venues included among this year’s 100 winners, the awards highlight the importance of hospitality, customer service and thoughtful visitor experiences across the region.

For visitors choosing accommodation in the Lake District, the recognition provides an additional indication of the standards associated with the two named venues. Their inclusion follows the established assessment process, customer feedback and judging criteria used to identify businesses offering particularly strong welcomes and memorable stays.

The awards ultimately place the people delivering accommodation services at the centre of the recognition, acknowledging the contribution of owners, managers and employees. For Skelwith Fold Caravan Park and Mill Pool Barn, the national recognition adds to the profile of two Cumbrian venues that have been identified for the welcome they provide to guests.
