Two Kendal Men Jailed After Stealing Electric Bike From 13-Year-Old Boy
Two Kendal men have been sentenced after stealing an electric bike from a 13-year-old child during a planned meeting.
The court heard that Declan Hughes, aged 23, contacted the victim through Snapchat before arranging to meet in Oxenholme. When the boy arrived with family members, Hughes viewed the bike before pushing the child to the ground and riding away. Ryan Bond was nearby and joined the escape by getting onto the back of the bike.
The stolen electric bike was later found outside Bond’s address, while Hughes was discovered hiding inside a loft and both men were arrested. Hughes pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced to two years and four months in prison. Bond admitted theft and received a one year prison sentence.
Police described the incident as a coordinated effort to steal the victim’s property. Officers said they were thankful the young boy was not seriously injured during the confrontation. The force also reminded residents to take precautions when selling valuable items online.
The case highlights the importance of safety measures when arranging online sales and meetings. Authorities advised bike owners to keep security records and consider tracking options. Investigators hope the sentences will serve as a warning to others involved in similar offences.
