Train Services Delayed Between Oxenholme and Lancaster After Overhead Wire Problem
Train services between Oxenholme Lake District and Lancaster were disrupted on Tuesday morning after an object became caught on the overhead electric wires in the Carnforth area, affecting Avanti West Coast and other operators. This caused several trains to be cancelled or delayed while engineers worked to clear the problem.
The incident left many passengers waiting at stations as services running southbound were delayed by up to 30 minutes during the morning peak. Operators urged travellers to check their journeys before setting out and advised that replacement arrangements were in place where needed.
Avanti West Coast said that trains were gradually returning to normal operation after the wires were cleared, but that some residual disruption was still expected through the late morning. Passengers were reminded that tickets remain valid on alternative services close to their original bookings.
Rail users travelling through the Lake District via Oxenholme and Lancaster were advised to allow extra time for their journeys and to check real‑time updates from National Rail Enquiries or their train operator’s website before travel.
Delays on this key part of the West Coast Main Line come at a time when rail services continue to experience occasional disruption from infrastructure issues across the network, reinforcing the importance of planning ahead for travel.
