Tour de Furness announces new starting point for this year’s charity cycle ride

02 May 2026 Tour de Furness announces new starting point for this year’s charity cycle ride

The organisers of Tour de Furness have announced a new starting point for this year’s much loved charity cycling event, giving riders a fresh base for one of the region’s best known community sporting occasions.

This year’s event will now start and finish at Furness Academy in Barrow in Furness. The change marks an important update for participants preparing to take part in the annual ride, which attracts cyclists from across Cumbria and beyond. Organisers say the venue will act as the central hub for the day’s activities.

The Tour de Furness has built a strong reputation over the years for combining sport, fundraising and community spirit. Riders will once again have a choice of routes covering different distances, allowing both experienced cyclists and more casual participants to get involved while enjoying some of the area’s best known scenery.

For many, the event is about more than competition. It has become an important fixture in the local calendar, bringing together families, volunteers, supporters and cyclists in support of charitable causes. Each year the ride helps raise funds while also promoting healthy activity and celebrating the landscape of the Furness peninsula.

With preparations now underway, organisers are encouraging riders to plan ahead and note the new starting location. The latest announcement adds fresh momentum to an event that continues to play a valued role in the sporting and community life of Barrow and Furness.
