Tough Season Comes to an End for Workington Zebra Finches

Workington Zebra Finches have brought their season to a close after a testing campaign in which results proved difficult to come by, but performances still showed moments of promise and resilience.

Throughout the season, the team faced a series of strong opponents in RFU League 1 North, often competing against sides with greater momentum and depth. Despite this, the Finches consistently showed determination on the pitch and continued to compete strongly even in challenging fixtures.

Earlier in the year, the squad endured a heavy defeat against Lancaster Lionesses, where they were outpaced in a high-scoring encounter but still managed to register tries and maintain effort until the final whistle. The match highlighted both the attacking threat of their opponents and the Finches’ refusal to give up.

Similarly, in other fixtures such as their clash with Carlisle Cougars, the team managed to create scoring opportunities and remain competitive for periods of the game, even when results went against them.

Despite finishing near the lower end of the table, the season has provided valuable experience for a developing squad. Players and coaches have pointed to improvements in teamwork, fitness, and game awareness as key positives to take forward into next season.
