Title Race Tightens After Another Thrilling Night In Maryport Pool League

Another action packed evening in the Maryport Pool League delivered a series of close contests, dominant performances, and significant movement in the standings as teams continue to battle for league positions with only six matches remaining before the competition splits into the Top 8 and Bottom 8 knockout stages.

League leaders Sun Inn Sharks strengthened their grip at the top of the table with an impressive 6-1 victory over Butchers B. The Sharks raced into an unassailable lead by winning all four singles before securing both doubles, with Butchers B avoiding a whitewash by taking the final doubles match. The result leaves the Sharks holding a commanding nine point lead at the summit.

One of the closest encounters of the evening saw Sun Inn Ballers edge Maryport Social Club4-3 in a match that could prove crucial in the race for a Top 8 finish. The highlight came when Ben Scott defeated league singles leader Ryan Ismay, helping the Ballers secure a valuable victory.

The standout performance of the week belonged to Elbra Club B, who recorded the only clean sweep of Matchday 24 by defeating GLRC7-0. Every frame went in Elbra's favour as they maintained pressure on the league leaders, with Shawn Brags, Gregg Walling, Ian Frizzle, and Roger Rivers all producing outstanding displays.

Elsewhere, Grasslot Working Men's Club bounced back with a convincing 6-1 win over Maryport Rugby League Club B, while Sun Dearham strengthened their Top 8 hopes after defeating Elbra Club C5-2. Butchers A edged Maryport Rugby League Club A4-3, keeping themselves level on points with Elbra A and Bowling Club in the increasingly competitive race for second place.

One of the biggest surprises of the night came when Swan Inn claimed a narrow 4-3 victory over third placed Bowling Club, boosting their own hopes of a Top 8 finish while denting Bowling Club's challenge near the top of the standings. Meanwhile, Elbra A secured an important 5-2 away victory against Sun Inn Cannons to remain firmly among the leading contenders.

With six rounds of the regular season remaining, every frame is becoming increasingly important. Sun Inn Sharks lead on 60 points, followed by Elbra Club B on 51, while Bowling Club, Elbra A, and Butchers A are locked together on 48 points, setting up an exciting finish to the campaign.
