The Rebuild Site Shortlisted For Two National Green Awards
The Rebuild Site, a Carlisle social enterprise dedicated to reducing construction waste, has been named as a finalist in two categories at the Green Awards UK 2026, highlighting its growing national reputation for environmental innovation and community impact.
The organisation has been shortlisted in both the Green Micro Enterprise of the Year and Excellence in Waste Management categories. The recognition reflects its work in rescuing surplus construction materials that would otherwise be discarded and redistributing them for reuse by charities, schools, community organisations, contractors and members of the public.
Founded in 2021, The Rebuild Site works closely with construction companies to divert usable materials away from landfill, helping to promote a circular economy within the building industry. By giving surplus materials a second life, the organisation reduces waste while providing affordable resources for local projects.
Since launching, the organisation has supported more than 280 community initiatives across Cumbria and South West Scotland. It has also established one of the UK's first dedicated construction material reuse hubs, creating a practical model for sustainable waste management in the construction sector.
Founder and Chief Executive Emma Porter said being shortlisted in two national categories was a significant achievement for the small team behind the project. She said the recognition demonstrates that construction materials continue to have value long after they are no longer required on building sites and praised the team's commitment to reducing waste while supporting local communities.
The organisation has previously received regional recognition for its environmental work, including awards for sustainability, innovation and social enterprise. The latest nominations represent another milestone as it continues to expand its influence within the UK's growing circular economy sector.
The Green Awards UK celebrate organisations and individuals making outstanding contributions to environmental sustainability, waste reduction and climate action. Finalists are selected from businesses and organisations across the country that demonstrate measurable environmental impact and innovative approaches to sustainability.
Winners of the Green Awards UK 2026 will be announced at a ceremony in London later this year. The Rebuild Site hopes its success will further encourage businesses to adopt sustainable construction practices while showing how surplus materials can benefit communities rather than becoming waste.
