Teenager Arrested After Alleged Assault on Vulnerable Man in Kendal Town Centre
A 13-year-old boy has been arrested following an alleged assault on a vulnerable man in Kendal town centre, police have confirmed.
Officers from South Lakes Police were called to reports of an incident that took place on the evening of Sunday, December 22. The arrest was made the following morning, and the teenager remains in police custody while enquiries continue.
In a statement shared on social media on Monday afternoon, police said the alleged assault involved a vulnerable male and occurred in a busy area of the town centre. Officers described the arrest as a swift response to the report.
A spokesperson for South Lakes Police said:
“This morning, following a vulnerable male being assaulted in the town centre last night, we have arrested a 13 year old boy. He’s got some questions to answer.”
The force added that the incident forms part of a broader increase in reports of anti-social behaviour (ASB) linked to groups of young people in Kendal, which has raised concerns among residents and local businesses.
Police have not released further details about the condition of the victim but confirmed that investigations are ongoing. Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries, including reviewing CCTV and speaking to potential witnesses.
South Lakes Police have urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to come forward, stressing that tackling anti-social behaviour remains a priority for the area.
Residents have previously called for increased patrols in the town centre, particularly during evening hours, as concerns grow about public safety and disorder involving youths.
