Tate Zischke Claims Hat Trick Of Awards At Workington Comets Presentation Night

05 Oct 2026 Tate Zischke Claims Hat Trick Of Awards At Workington Comets Presentation Night

Australian rider Tate Zischke collected three awards as Workington Comets celebrated their season at an end of season presentation night.

The Australian was among the main winners at the club's presentation evening, collecting the awards for most bonus points, most improved average and Fans' Rider of the Year. Zischke had been due to ride as a guest for Edinburgh against Glasgow, but that meeting was postponed because of rain, allowing him to attend the Workington event at Trades Hall.

Zischke's three awards reflected his contribution to the Comets during the season and the progress he made as a rider. The most improved average award recognised his development across the campaign, while the bonus points prize highlighted his ability to contribute valuable points beyond his primary scores. The Fans' Rider of the Year award also demonstrated the popularity he developed among supporters.

The main Comets Rider of the Year award went to club captain Troy Batchelor. Batchelor was unable to attend the presentation because he was travelling to Pardubice for the Czech Golden Helmet event. Sponsor Jonathan Holt accepted the trophy on his behalf while Batchelor followed the presentation remotely.

Batchelor's recognition capped a season in which he served as captain and played an important role within the Workington side. His absence from the presentation did not prevent the club from recognising his contribution, with Holt collecting the award before the gathering of riders, officials, supporters and people connected with the Comets.

The presentation night also recognised Niklas Holm Jakobsen, who received the Battler of the Year award. The Dane was acknowledged for his contribution to the team, adding another individual honour to the evening's list of awards. His recognition reflected the effort and commitment shown by riders throughout the season.

Jonas Jeppesen, another Danish rider involved with the Comets, was named Home Rider of the Year. The award recognised his performances for the club and provided further recognition for the contribution made by the overseas riders who formed part of Workington's team during the campaign.

Max Perry received the Performance of the Year award. His performances during the season earned particular recognition from the club, with the award highlighting one of the standout individual contributions from the Comets' campaign. Perry was among the riders recognised as the presentation evening celebrated the efforts of the whole team.

There were also special mentions for Roy Clarke and George English, who were praised for their commitment to the club. Both were described as ever present during the season and regularly made the journey from the North East to play their part in the Comets' campaign.

Their recognition underlined the contribution made away from the track as well as by the riders themselves. Travelling regularly to support the club requires considerable commitment, particularly across a full speedway season. The special mentions provided an opportunity for Workington to acknowledge those efforts and the support they brought to the team.

The event was held at Trades Hall and provided an opportunity for the Comets to formally mark the conclusion of their season. Presentation evenings give clubs the chance to recognise individual achievements while also bringing together riders, sponsors, officials, supporters and other people who contribute to the running of the team.

The evening also included recognition for long time Workington speedway photographer Dave Payne. Payne was praised for his commitment to covering the Comets and documenting the team's activities throughout the season. His photography has provided supporters with a visual record of the club's racing campaign and the riders competing for Workington.

The awards reflected a season featuring contributions from riders with different roles and backgrounds. Zischke's three prizes highlighted his individual progress and popularity, while Batchelor's Rider of the Year award recognised the captain's overall contribution. Other honours for Jakobsen, Jeppesen and Perry ensured that several members of the team received recognition.

Zischke's presence at the event was made possible after the cancellation of his planned Edinburgh guest appearance. The Australian had originally been expected to ride in the fixture against Glasgow, but rain prevented the meeting from taking place. That change to his schedule allowed him to attend the Comets' presentation and collect the three awards in person.

The Australian has been an important figure for Workington during the campaign and had previously been handed the Comets captaincy during Batchelor's absence. His development was also highlighted by team management earlier in the season, when he was described as having grown significantly as a rider and within his responsibilities.

The presentation brought together the individual achievements from across the season and provided a final opportunity to recognise those who contributed to Workington's campaign. From the riders receiving trophies to sponsors, photographers and travelling supporters, the evening acknowledged the wider group involved with the Comets.

With the awards now presented, Zischke's hat trick stands as one of the notable individual achievements from the Workington Comets presentation night. His three trophies, alongside Batchelor's main Rider of the Year award and the other honours presented at Trades Hall, provided a fitting conclusion to the club's season.
