Swifty Surges Late To Claim Open Maiden Honours At Millstone Moor

04 Oct 2026 Swifty Surges Late To Claim Open Maiden Honours At Millstone Moor

Swifty produced a powerful late finish to claim Open Maiden honours at Millstone Moor after appearing beaten close to home.

The latest meeting at Millstone Moor also saw Thorn Daisy strengthen her position at the top of the HRA Puppy Championship. The final month of the season began with another important contest for the leading puppies, while the Open Maiden provided a dramatic finish. Swifty, owned by Andrew Bulman and Laura Steele, produced the decisive burst at the line to deny Tartan Raider and complete an exciting race.

The Open Maiden attracted four runners, with Foxparke Elliot's Lad and Tartan Raider making the strongest early progress. Swifty was also prominent and moved through into second position while the field travelled down Redmain. Thorn Dot was further behind, with the runners separated by significant gaps as they continued through the course.

Tartan Raider maintained the advantage as the runners approached the finish. Swifty remained in contention behind the leader, while Foxparke Elliot's Lad continued to challenge for the remaining places. Thorn Dot was also still involved, although the main battle for victory appeared to be developing between Tartan Raider and Swifty.

As the runners raced towards the line, Tartan Raider appeared to have done enough to secure victory. Swifty, however, produced a powerful final surge and rapidly closed the gap. The late challenge proved decisive as Swifty surged past to take the honours, leaving Tartan Raider to finish second.

Foxparke Elliot's Lad completed the first three places, while Thorn Dot finished fourth. The result gave Swifty an important victory in the Open Maiden and provided one of the closest finishes of the meeting. The late acceleration was particularly significant after Tartan Raider had held the advantage for much of the closing stages.

The meeting also featured the latest round of the HRA Puppy Championship, where Thorn Daisy extended her lead at the top of the standings. The championship has developed into a five way contest, but Thorn Daisy's latest victory has given her a three point advantage over her closest rivals. Her result strengthened her position as the season approaches its final stages.

There were five runners in the Puppy race, with three competing directly in the championship battle. Thorn Daisy, Rodney Ranger and Cinderella were joined by Fable and Bewley, both of whom have regularly collected tickets. Thorn Daisy made a strong start and quickly established herself among the leading runners as the field moved away.

Going down Redmain, Thorn Daisy held a length or two over Rodney Ranger, with Bewley a few yards further behind. Fable was also in the chasing group, while Cinderella remained in contention. Thorn Daisy maintained her advantage as the runners approached the finish and looked well placed to secure another important championship result.

Thorn Daisy continued to lead into the closing stages and went on to record her 17th puppy victory of the season. Rodney Ranger finished second, with Bewley taking third. Fable completed the fourth position, while Cinderella claimed the final ticket. The victory increased Thorn Daisy's advantage and added further importance to the remaining championship races.

The Seniors contest featured six runners, with I Am It again making a strong start. Dream Catcher and Silver Dream were among the early challengers, while Baroness Ava, Thorn Heart and Minnie Million remained close enough to compete for the leading positions. I Am It maintained the advantage as the hounds travelled down Redmain.

Reports from Bridekirk confirmed that I Am It was still leading Silver Dream, Thorn Heart and Baroness Ava, with Minnie Million beginning to close the gap. The race remained competitive as the runners moved towards the final sections of the course. Minnie Million's progress added further pressure to the leaders and ensured the outcome remained uncertain approaching the finish.

I Am It continued to hold first place into the penultimate field, with Minnie Million the nearest challenger and Silver Dream a length further back. The leading trio remained closely matched as they approached the final gate. With the finish in sight, all three were involved in a battle for victory, setting up a dramatic conclusion to the Seniors race.

I Am It appeared likely to hold on for the win as the runners entered the final few strides. Silver Dream, however, produced her trademark late surge and managed to deny him just before the line. Minnie Million also finished strongly to take second, leaving I Am It in third and completing another competitive finish at Millstone Moor.

Baroness Ava finished fourth in the Seniors, followed by Thorn Heart and Dream Catcher. Silver Dream's victory added another notable result to her season and demonstrated the importance of finishing strongly in the closing stages. The result also ensured that the senior contest remained competitive through to the final stages.

The latest Millstone Moor meeting therefore produced three different winners across the programme. Silver Dream took the Seniors race, Thorn Daisy won the Puppy contest and Swifty completed the card by claiming the Open Maiden. The results provided another evening of competitive action as the HRA season moves towards its final month.

The Puppy Championship remains one of the main storylines following Thorn Daisy's latest success. Her 17th victory of the season has given her a three point lead, although several rivals remain within contention. With further racing still to come, the championship battle is expected to remain closely contested before the final outcome is decided.

Swifty's Open Maiden victory also provided a notable conclusion to the meeting. Tartan Raider had looked capable of securing the race after controlling the closing stages, but Swifty's acceleration in the final few strides changed the result. Foxparke Elliot's Lad and Thorn Dot completed the field, while the four runner contest produced one of the most dramatic finishes of the evening.

The full results from Millstone Moor saw Silver Dream win the Hounds race in 26.22 seconds, with Minnie Million second and I Am It third. Thorn Daisy won the Pups race in 16.14 seconds, ahead of Rodney Ranger and Bewley. Swifty completed the meeting's results by winning the Open Maiden in 17.20 seconds from Tartan Raider and Foxparke Elliot's Lad.
