Sudden Death of Whitehaven Teenager Bailey Kiddie Prompts Inquest

An inquest has opened into the death of a Whitehaven teenager who died suddenly at his home earlier this year.

Bailey Kiddie, 17, was found unresponsive at his home in Sandwith on September 20, 2025. Bailey, who had epilepsy, was pronounced dead at 6.06pm.
The opening hearing took place at Cockermouth Coroner’s Court, where Assistant Coroner for Cumbria, Margaret Taylor, outlined the circumstances surrounding Bailey’s death and explained why an inquest is required.
Ms Taylor told the court that Bailey was physically well but had been living with epilepsy. A provisional medical cause of death has been given as sudden and unexpected death in epilepsy.
The coroner confirmed that toxicology and post-mortem reports have already been received, along with a factual statement from Bailey’s GP.

The court also heard that further evidence has been requested, including a pen portrait of Bailey’s life from his family and a statement from the attending Cumbria Police officer relating to medications seized at the property.

In addition, the coroner’s office has asked for a statement from a consultant at North Cumbria Integrated Care regarding Bailey’s epilepsy diagnosis and treatment, as well as confirmation of whether any investigation has been carried out into his care.

A provisional date for the final inquest hearing has been set for March 31, 2026.
