Silverdale Holiday Park Wins Top Cumbria Tourism Award.
A Silverdale holiday park has won a major Cumbria tourism award, celebrating its outstanding contribution to the county's visitor economy and the quality of its holiday experience.
Holgates Silverdale Park was named Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year at the 2026 Cumbria Tourism Awards, beating other finalists in one of the county's most closely watched tourism categories. The prestigious awards recognise businesses and individuals across Cumbria that demonstrate excellence in tourism, customer service, innovation and sustainable practices.
The award is a major achievement for the Silverdale site and provides recognition for the team responsible for welcoming visitors throughout the year. Michael Holgate, managing director of Holgates Holiday Parks, said the award was a hugely proud moment for the business and praised the team's dedication to creating memorable experiences for guests.
Holgates Silverdale is the flagship site of the family owned holiday park business, which has been operating since 1956. The company now operates nine parks across Cumbria and Lancashire and employs more than 200 people. The Silverdale site is known for its scenic surroundings and extensive leisure facilities, making it a popular destination for visitors looking to explore the countryside and coastline around the Arnside and Silverdale area.
The latest award adds to the site's previous recognition. Silverdale Holiday Park was also named the AA's Best Campsite and Caravan Park of the Year in England in 2022, demonstrating its established reputation within the UK holiday industry. The Cumbria Tourism Awards were held at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal on July 8, bringing together businesses and tourism professionals from across the county.
This year's judging process considered factors including visitor care, business excellence, digital presence, marketing, product quality and inclusive and sustainable practices. For Holgates, the recognition highlights the work carried out by staff across the business to maintain high standards and provide visitors with a positive holiday experience.
The award also comes at an important time for Cumbria's tourism sector, which remains a major contributor to the local economy. Holiday parks, hotels, attractions, restaurants and outdoor businesses all play a significant role in bringing visitors into the region. Silverdale's location provides visitors with access to coastal scenery, countryside and outdoor attractions, making it particularly attractive to families and people looking for an active break.
The success is also expected to strengthen the park's reputation among potential visitors searching for quality holiday accommodation in the North West. Following its countywide success, Holgates Silverdale Park will now have the opportunity to represent Cumbria at the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence in 2027.
That next stage will give the business an opportunity to compete against leading tourism businesses from across England. The award is therefore not only a celebration of the Silverdale team's current achievements but also a chance to showcase the wider quality of Cumbria's tourism industry on a national stage.
For the team at Holgates Silverdale, the recognition provides further encouragement to continue investing in the visitor experience and maintaining the standards that have helped the park earn national and regional recognition.
