Shoplifter Banned from West Cumbria Stores for Two Years
A Workington man has been banned from entering a number of shops and supermarkets across West Cumbria for two years after being convicted of shoplifting.
Jamie Houghton, 34, appeared before Workington Magistrates’ Court, where Allerdale police secured a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order against him.
The order places restrictions on Houghton’s access to a number of retail premises in Workington, Maryport and Cockermouth. The restrictions cover several major supermarkets, convenience stores and other retailers.
Under the order, Houghton is prohibited from entering properties displaying the Schemelink sign in Workington, with the exception of Morrisons on Derwent Drive. He is also prohibited from entering Schemelink premises in Maryport.
The ban also includes Booths stores, Asda at Dunmail Park, Dunmail Park itself, Aldi on Derwent Drive, Morrisons Daily and SPAR on Harrington Road, Tesco on New Bridge Road, Lidl on Curzon Street in Maryport, Home Bargains in Workington and Sainsbury’s on Station Street in Cockermouth.
The Criminal Behaviour Order is intended to prevent further offending and restrict Houghton’s access to locations associated with the previous shoplifting offences.
The case highlights continued efforts by police and local retailers to tackle repeat shoplifting and protect businesses and communities across West Cumbria.
