Seven Illegal E-Bikes Seized During Police Crackdown in Carlisle and Kendal

Seven Illegal E-Bikes Seized During Police Crackdown in Carlisle and Kendal

Police have seized seven illegal electric bikes during enforcement activity in Carlisle and Kendal as part of efforts to tackle antisocial behaviour and dangerous riding.

Officers from the Carlisle Neighbourhood Policing Team seized six of the bikes after they were reportedly being used antisocially and were suspected of being involved in criminal activity.

Some of the bikes were found to be heavily modified and capable of travelling at speeds exceeding 40 mph, raising concerns about the safety of both riders and other road users.

In a separate incident in the Kendal area, police seized another illegal e-bike earlier in the week as part of the same crackdown.

Cumbria Police said the operation forms part of ongoing work to address the illegal use of electric bikes and scooters, which officers say can pose risks to pedestrians, motorists and the riders themselves.

Police have warned that illegally modified bikes will continue to be targeted and seized, with some of the confiscated vehicles expected to be destroyed.

Officers say they will keep carrying out proactive patrols across Cumbria to tackle antisocial riding and protect communities.
