Seven Arrested in Cumbria Police Raids Targeting Ketamine Supply
Police in Cumbria have made seven arrests following a series of early-morning raids targeting the illegal supply of ketamine and other controlled substances, officers have confirmed. The action, carried out at eight properties in Carlisle, Whitehaven, Penrith and Kendal, formed part of a “Drugs Day of Action” designed to disrupt dealers and protect local communities from the harm caused by illicit drugs.
The operation known as Operation Abraham was supported by funding from Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner and involved coordinated searches across multiple locations, with some doors being forced open to catch suspects by surprise. Alongside ketamine, officers also discovered and seized other illegal substances including cocaine, cannabis, MDMA and suspected illicit pharmaceuticals, as well as cash and high-value items such as a TAG Heuer watch and an electric bike.
Detective Inspector Dave Howard, who led the operation, said the raids were intended to send a clear message to those dealing drugs that law enforcement is actively working to remove them from the county’s streets. He added that the force continues to work with schools and community groups to raise awareness about the dangers of drug use, particularly among young people who may underestimate the serious health risks posed by substances such as ketamine.
Most of those arrested have since been released under investigation as enquiries continue, with one individual receiving an out-of-court disposal. Police have urged members of the public with information about drug-related activity to come forward to help build evidence and protect communities.
