Seven Arrested During Major Police Operation Targeting Ketamine Supply
Seven people have been arrested in a significant police operation aimed at disrupting the supply of ketamine across Cumbria. The early morning raids were carried out at eight properties in Carlisle, Whitehaven, Penrith and Kendal as part of a coordinated crackdown on illegal drug dealing.
The series of dawn actions formed part of Operation Abraham, a targeted “day of action” funded by Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, David Allen. Funding for the initiative came from assets previously recovered from drug enforcement operations.
Police executed search warrants at all locations, sometimes forcing entry by breaking down doors to catch suspects by surprise. A range of drugs and related items were seized during the raids, including ketamine alongside cocaine, cannabis, MDMA and suspected illicit pharmaceuticals. Officers also recovered cash and valuable items, such as a TAG Heuer watch and an ebike.
Detective Inspector Dave Howard, who led the operation, emphasised that the action sends a clear warning to those dealing in illegal substances. He said the force remains determined to protect communities and target those involved in harmful drug activity.
The operation also included community outreach efforts, with officers distributing information leaflets and working with schools to educate young people about the dangers of drug use. Authorities have highlighted growing concerns about ketamine’s potential health risks, including damage to the kidneys and bladder, as well as adverse mental health effects.
Most of those arrested have been released under investigation while inquiries continue, with one individual receiving an out of court disposal.
Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner stressed the importance of continued vigilance and urged residents to report any suspicious activity to help the force build evidence and protect local communities.
