Public Invited to Share Views on Timms Review of Personal Independence Payment

11 Apr 2026 Public Invited to Share Views on Timms Review of Personal Independence Payment

The Government has announced a significant step toward reforming the welfare system with the launch of the Timms Review of Personal Independence Payment (PIP). This marks the first comprehensive review of the PIP system, aiming to address long-standing concerns about its effectiveness and fairness.

Officials have acknowledged that the current welfare framework, originally designed under a previous administration, is failing many of the people it is meant to support. Critics argue that it creates unnecessary barriers for individuals trying to return to work and is becoming increasingly unsustainable in the long term.

At the heart of the review is a commitment to ensuring that any changes introduced are both essential and fair. The Government has emphasized that reform must strike a balance between supporting vulnerable individuals and creating a system that encourages independence and employment opportunities.

As part of this initiative, a 10-week Call for Evidence has been officially opened. This consultation invites input from a wide range of stakeholders, including disabled people, carers, healthcare professionals, organisations, and policy experts. The goal is to gather real-world experiences and insights into how the PIP system currently operates and where improvements are needed.

Participants are encouraged to share their personal experiences, challenges, and suggestions to help shape the future of the system. The consultation is accessible online, with additional formats available to ensure inclusive participation.

Local representatives are urging residents, particularly those in communities such as Barrow and Furness, to take part and ensure their voices are heard. Their contributions will play a vital role in shaping a more effective, compassionate, and sustainable welfare system.

The findings from this review are expected to inform future policy decisions and reforms aimed at delivering a fairer and more responsive support system for those who rely on PIP across the UK.
