Prolific South Lakes Motorist Jailed After Multiple Drug-Driving Convictions

South Lakes  A motorist from the South Lakes area has been sentenced after being caught driving while over the legal drug limit on multiple occasions, police have said. The case was heard in Copeland Magistrates’ Court last week, where the defendant admitted the repeated offences. (Original reporting by NW Evening Mail)

Officers from Copeland Police have been stepping up patrols and checks in response to concerns about drug-driving and other dangerous behaviour on local roads, which remains a priority for local neighbourhood policing teams. Drivers found to be over the legal limit for controlled substances face prosecution, fines, disqualification and possible custodial sentences depending on the severity and frequency of their offences.

In related enforcement action across the region, police have continued to target impaired drivers. In a recent separate incident in Whitehaven, a man was sentenced for possession of class A and B drugs following a police chase and foot pursuit in Mirehouse.

Police are urging motorists to comply with the law and reminding the public that driving while impaired by drugs not only carries heavy penalties but also poses a serious risk to road safety.
