Pop-up “rage room” brings smashing new experience to Cumbria
A temporary rage room experience has been introduced in Carlisle, offering people an unusual way to relieve stress by breaking objects in a controlled setting.
The pop-up attraction was organised by broadband provider Fibres at a secret location in the city, as Cumbria currently does not have a permanent rage room facility.
Rage rooms, where participants smash items such as glass, electronics and furniture, have become increasingly popular around the world since they first appeared in Japan in the late 2000s.
The Carlisle experience, delivered in partnership with Smash Space, attracted strong interest from local residents eager to try something different. Participants were provided with safety gear and instructions before entering the room, with each session lasting around 15 minutes.
People typically started by breaking smaller items like bottles before moving on to larger objects, including electronic equipment. Many described the experience as both physically intense and enjoyable.
Some participants said the activity helped them release frustration, especially related to everyday issues such as broadband problems, while organisers described it as a fun and safe way to let off steam.
