25 Apr 2026 Police Warn After Youths Climb Scaffolding and Rooftops in Town Centre

Police have expressed concern following a number of incidents involving young people climbing scaffolding and making their way onto rooftops in the town centre of Whitehaven, West Cumbria.

Officers said they received several reports over recent days about groups engaging in this dangerous activity. The behaviour has raised significant safety concerns, as unsecured scaffolding and rooftops pose a high risk of falls and serious injury.

Police confirmed that those involved have been identified and will be dealt with accordingly. They are also urging parents and guardians to speak with their children about the dangers of such actions.

A police spokesperson stressed that climbing scaffolding and rooftops is extremely hazardous and could result in severe consequences. Authorities are asking for community cooperation to help prevent further incidents and ensure public safety.
