Police Say No Evidence of ‘Cat Man’ Sightings in West Cumbria Amid Viral Social Media Claims

10 Jun 2026 Police Say No Evidence of ‘Cat Man’ Sightings in West Cumbria Amid Viral Social Media Claims

Cumbria Police have stated that there is currently no evidence to support claims circulating on social media about a so-called “cat-man” reportedly seen in parts of West Cumbria.

The rumours, which have spread rapidly online in recent days, are based on images and videos shared across various platforms. The content appears to show a person dressed in dark clothing with animal-like features, sparking widespread speculation and concern among some members of the public.

However, police have confirmed that no formal reports have been made that substantiate the alleged sightings, and officers are not actively investigating any confirmed incidents linked to the claims.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious about unverified information shared on social media, warning that such content can quickly escalate and cause unnecessary alarm within communities.

In previous similar cases, police have often highlighted that viral posts do not always reflect real or confirmed events, and that many circulating images or videos may be misleading, misinterpreted, or taken out of context.

The force reiterated that if any genuine threat to public safety existed, it would be officially communicated through verified channels and investigated appropriately.

For now, officers are advising the public not to share unconfirmed material and to report any genuine concerns through proper channels rather than relying on social media speculation.
