Police Investigate Series Of Racial Abuse Incidents In Workington
Police are investigating a series of racial abuse incidents in Workington town centre after one man was allegedly subjected to repeated verbal and racial abuse.
Cumbria Police said the incidents involved one man being verbally and racially abusive towards another man in the town centre.
The latest reported incident took place on July 15 at around 11.30pm. Officers are now appealing for witnesses and anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward.
Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the incidents or may have information about what happened in Workington town centre.The investigation follows reports of a number of incidents rather than a single isolated allegation, with officers working to establish the circumstances surrounding the behaviour.
Racially abusive behaviour can have a significant impact on those targeted and can cause wider concern within the local community. Police are therefore encouraging anyone who witnessed the incidents to share information that could help officers establish what took place.
Members of the public who have relevant information can report it online through Cumbria Police's reporting service. They should quote incident number 111 of 19 July 2026 when making a report.
