08 Sep 2026 Police Investigate Racially Aggravated Incident In Carlisle

Police are investigating a reported racially aggravated assault and public order incident at a Carlisle restaurant following an incident in July.

The incident was reported at the McDonald’s restaurant on Scotch Street in Carlisle, where police are now seeking information that could assist their investigation.

Officers said the incident took place on Sunday, July 19, at approximately 3.20pm. The circumstances have prompted police to make an appeal for information.

Cumbria Police said officers are keen to identify people pictured in connection with the investigation. Police believe those individuals may be able to provide information that could help establish what happened.

The force described the incident as involving both a racially aggravated assault and a public order offence. The investigation is therefore considering the circumstances surrounding both aspects of the reported incident.

The reported incident took place at the Scotch Street restaurant during the afternoon, with the time recorded by police as around 3.20pm.

Police have released images of people they would like to identify as part of their enquiries. Officers believe speaking to those pictured could assist them in progressing the investigation.

Members of the public who recognise the people shown in the images are being asked to come forward with any information they may have.

Information can be submitted directly to Cumbria Police through its online reporting service. Anyone contacting officers should quote log number 136 from July 19, 2026, when providing information.

People can also contact police by calling 101 if they have information that could assist with the investigation into the reported incident.

There is also an option for people to provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers. The independent service can be contacted on 0800 555 111.

The appeal comes as officers continue enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the reported incident at the Carlisle restaurant. Police have not provided further details about the people pictured or the allegations being investigated.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information that could help officers identify those pictured is encouraged to contact the police.

The investigation remains ongoing, with police continuing to seek information that could help establish the circumstances of the reported racially aggravated assault and public order incident.
