Police Arrest Three After Major Carlisle Crackdown on Organised Immigration Crime

04 Jul 2026 Police Arrest Three After Major Carlisle Crackdown on Organised Immigration Crime

Three people have been arrested following a large scale police operation targeting organised immigration crime across Carlisle. Officers joined forces with immigration officials and partner agencies to carry out checks at businesses across the city. The operation formed part of a nationwide effort to disrupt criminal networks linked to illegal immigration.

Fourteen businesses including barber shops, convenience stores and takeaway outlets were visited during the two day enforcement campaign. Police arrested two people on suspicion of drug dealing, while another person was arrested on suspicion of illegal entry into the UK and illegal working. All three suspects have since been released on bail as investigations continue. Nine vehicles, including three electric bikes and six cars, were also stopped and checked.

The coordinated operation involved Cumbria Police, Immigration Enforcement, Trading Standards and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service. Officers said organised immigration crime remains a national policing priority because it is often linked to exploitation and other forms of serious criminal activity. Detectives added that enforcement action is designed to disrupt illegal working while protecting vulnerable people from abuse.

Detective Chief Inspector James Yallop said organised immigration crime presents a complex and evolving challenge for law enforcement. He explained that intelligence led operations help identify those staying or working in the UK illegally while disrupting criminal gangs responsible for exploitation. He also noted that previous operations in Cumbria had found most people checked were legally entitled to work in the country.

Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner David Allen welcomed the joint operation and praised the agencies involved. He said organised immigration crime often exploits vulnerable people seeking a better future. He urged the public to report any suspicious activity to help tackle the issue.

Police have confirmed that similar operations will continue across Cumbria as part of ongoing efforts to combat organised immigration crime. Officers are encouraging residents and businesses to remain vigilant and share information that could assist future investigations. Authorities believe strong cooperation between enforcement agencies and the public is key to disrupting criminal networks. The latest operation sends a clear message that illegal activity will continue to be targeted across the region.
