Partial Closure Orders Imposed On Two Barrow Homes After Anti Social Behaviour Reports
Two homes in Barrow have been subject to partial closure orders following reports of anti social behaviour and criminal activity linked to the properties.
The orders were granted after reports raised concerns about behaviour associated with the two homes. Police said the reports included anti social behaviour, drug use, suspected drug dealing, violence and other criminal activity.
The restrictions do not prevent the occupants from continuing to live at the properties. Instead, the partial closure orders place restrictions on who can access the addresses during the period they remain in force.
Under the orders, access to the properties is restricted to a number of named individuals. This means other people are prevented from entering the addresses while the orders remain active.
The measures have been introduced following concerns about behaviour connected with the properties and its impact on people living nearby. Police said local residents had raised concerns about the addresses.
Barrow neighbourhood policing inspector Damien Mottram said officers understood the significant impact that anti social behaviour and criminal activity could have on local communities.
He said police had listened to concerns raised by residents about the two addresses and had taken action through the closure order process.
Inspector Mottram described closure orders as an important tool for dealing with properties that are repeatedly linked to behaviour causing harm, distress and nuisance to people living in the surrounding area.
The orders therefore provide police with a way of restricting access to properties where repeated problems have been identified, while allowing the occupants to remain at their homes. The restrictions currently cover the properties on Newport Street and Pennine Gardens and are scheduled to remain in effect for three months.
Police have not provided further details about the individual incidents or allegations associated with either address. The reported concerns cover a range of behaviour, including suspected drug dealing and violence.
The action forms part of efforts by neighbourhood policing teams to respond to concerns about anti social behaviour and criminal activity affecting local communities.
Inspector Mottram said police would continue working with partner agencies to address the issues associated with the properties and to help keep local communities safe.
The closure orders place specific restrictions on access rather than requiring the occupants to leave their homes. Named individuals are permitted access, while access by others is restricted under the orders.
Police have emphasised the impact that persistent anti social behaviour can have on neighbouring residents, including harm, distress and nuisance, as they continue working with partner agencies to address the concerns.
The orders will remain in force for three months, during which the restrictions on access to the two Barrow properties will apply.
