Parking Restrictions Introduced in Lake District Town to Tackle Ongoing Issues

31 Mar 2026 Parking Restrictions Introduced in Lake District Town to Tackle Ongoing Issues

New parking restrictions are being introduced in the town of Keswick following years of problems caused by inappropriate parking in residential streets.

Local authorities have confirmed that work will begin on April 1 to install double yellow lines at a number of junctions across the town. The measures are aimed at improving road safety and ensuring better traffic flow in areas frequently affected by obstruction.

The installation process is expected to take up to two days, depending on weather conditions. A similar scheme had previously been planned but was postponed due to severe wet weather.

During the work, temporary parking restrictions will be in place, and residents have been advised to keep affected areas clear of vehicles from the evening before construction begins to allow crews to operate safely.

In most locations, the new double yellow lines will extend between two and four metres from junctions, targeting key points where parked vehicles have been causing visibility and access issues.

A number of streets will be affected by the changes, including Acorn Street, Church Street, Eskin Street and Wordsworth Street, among others.

Officials say the move is part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and accessibility in the popular tourist town, which has struggled with parking pressures for several years.
