Over 10 Fire Crews Tackle Huge Blaze At Barrow Commercial Property

More than 10 fire crews responded after a huge fire engulfed a large commercial building on Park Road in Barrow late Friday evening.

The incident began at around 9.40pm, with fire engines from across Cumbria, including Bootle Fire Station, attending alongside 10 other fire appliances, a turntable ladder, and two water bowsers. Firefighters arrived to find a building measuring approximately 15 metres by 60 metres fully involved in fire.

The blaze affected a commercial property containing farm machinery, bales of cardboard waste, and an office section, all of which were heavily involved in the fire. Crews immediately launched a large scale firefighting operation to prevent the flames spreading further.

Firefighters worked throughout the night using specialist equipment, including the turntable ladder to tackle the fire from above, while water bowsers supplied additional water to support the operation. Due to the intensity of the blaze, nearby roads were closed and members of the public were advised to avoid the area.

Emergency services remained at the scene into the following day as crews continued dampening down hotspots and ensuring the fire was fully contained. There have been no reports of injuries, and the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.

Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service thanked firefighters from stations across the county who assisted in bringing the incident under control. Investigations into the cause of the fire are expected to begin once the site is declared safe.

The incident is one of the largest fires attended in Barrow this year, requiring a significant multi agency response and specialist firefighting resources to manage the scale of the blaze.
