North Cumbrian Road To Close For Two Weeks During Resurfacing Works

A major resurfacing programme will close part of the A6071 in north Cumbria for up to fourteen days from August.

Cumberland Council has confirmed that resurfacing work will begin on Sunday 2 August, subject to weather and site conditions, along the A6071 between Longtown and Brampton. The project aims to improve the condition of one of the area's key transport routes.

The work will be completed in phases, with closures moving along different sections of the road. From 2 to 6 August, work will take place between Bush-on-Lyne and Fir Ends.

The closure will then move to the section between Fir Ends and Smithfield Crossroads from 7 to 8 August, followed by resurfacing between Smithfield Crossroads and Halfway House on 9 and 10 August.

Further work is scheduled between Pump Cottage and Newtown from 11 to 12 August, before the final phase takes place between Cambeck Bridge and Crooked Holme on 13 August.

During the closures, clearly signed diversion routes will be in place to help motorists travel safely around the affected areas. Residents and businesses along the route will continue to receive access where possible, although temporary delays may occur.

Cumberland Council has advised drivers to allow extra travel time throughout the resurfacing programme and thanked the public for their patience while essential maintenance is carried out to improve road safety and driving conditions.

The council said the work forms part of its ongoing investment in maintaining Cumbria's highway network, with the upgraded road surface expected to provide a smoother and more durable route for motorists once the scheme is completed.
