New Funding Bid Moves Ulverston Coronation Hall Redevelopment Forward

New Funding Bid Moves Ulverston Coronation Hall Redevelopment Forward

Progress is being made on proposals to secure significant funding for the future redevelopment of Ulverston’s Coronation Hall, as Westmorland and Furness Council prepares a key application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The bid could pave the way for a large-scale transformation of the historic venue, with the council already identifying an initial investment of around £2 million, supported by an additional £500,000 from the Borderlands Place Programme. If successful, the project could receive up to a further £3.2 million in funding, enabling a much more extensive redevelopment.
Community engagement has played a central role in shaping the plans. Hundreds of residents shared ideas and opinions during a public consultation last year, and their feedback is now being used as evidence to strengthen the funding application. Representatives from the National Lottery Heritage Fund have also visited the site to discuss the proposal, with the final submission expected next month.
The council is continuing to work closely with local stakeholders, including the town council, businesses, and community, disability, arts, and cultural groups, to ensure the project reflects the needs and aspirations of the community. A dedicated working group is helping refine the plans and demonstrate broad public support.
If the bid is approved, architects will be appointed to develop detailed designs for the redevelopment, with ongoing community involvement throughout the process. At the same time, alternative plans are being considered to ensure improvements can still be delivered within the existing budget if the bid is unsuccessful.
The project is seen as a major opportunity to revitalise Coronation Hall, preserving its heritage while creating a modern cultural and community hub for Ulverston.
