Nando’s At Hollywood Park Approved With Conditions Over Gulls And Odours

13 Aug 2026 Nando’s At Hollywood Park Approved With Conditions Over Gulls And Odours

Plans for a new Nando’s restaurant at Hollywood Park in Barrow have been approved subject to conditions, despite concerns raised during the planning process about potential odours and gulls attracted by food waste.

The proposed restaurant forms part of the ongoing development of Hollywood Park on Hindpool Road, one of Barrow’s established retail and leisure destinations. The site already includes a range of restaurants, shops and entertainment facilities, making it a major commercial area for the town.

The planning application covers the construction of a new restaurant unit, along with changes to landscaping, parking arrangements and the provision of a delivery bay. Planning records identify the application as B18/2025/0175.

Concerns surrounding gulls and potential food odours were among the issues considered as part of the planning process, with conditions attached to the approval intended to ensure that the restaurant's operation does not create unacceptable problems for the surrounding area.

Food businesses can generate odours through cooking, ventilation and waste storage, while improperly managed food waste can attract birds and other pests. The conditions attached to the development are intended to address such potential impacts and ensure appropriate management once the restaurant begins operating.

The proposed development will also include changes to the existing parking and access arrangements at Hollywood Park. Delivery facilities are being incorporated into the plans to allow the restaurant to receive supplies while helping to manage vehicle movements around the site.

Hollywood Park is already a significant leisure and shopping destination in Barrow, with facilities including a cinema, health club and several restaurants. The council describes the complex as one of the town's major visitor and leisure locations.

The arrival of Nando’s would add another well known restaurant brand to the existing food offering at the site. Hollywood Park currently has restaurants including McDonald’s, KFC and Pizza Hut, alongside other leisure facilities.

The development could also provide additional employment opportunities once the restaurant is operational, while increasing the range of dining options available to residents and visitors in the area.

The approval represents another step forward for the Hollywood Park development, although the restaurant will still need to meet the conditions imposed as part of the planning permission before it can fully proceed.
