Multi Million Pound West Cumbrian Industrial Hub Given Green Light

17 Jul 2026 Multi Million Pound West Cumbrian Industrial Hub Given Green Light

A major regeneration project aimed at transforming West Cumbria's economy has moved a significant step forward after plans for a multi million pound industrial hub received planning approval.

The project, known as the Industrial Solutions Hub, forms part of the wider Cleator Moor Town Deal regeneration programme. It has been developed through a partnership between Industrial Solutions Hub and Cumberland Council, with backing from Sellafield Ltd and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority. The scheme is intended to strengthen the local economy by encouraging innovation while creating high quality employment opportunities across the region.

Once completed, the hub will provide flexible workspaces, shared facilities, and collaborative environments where businesses, researchers, and industry experts can work together on new technologies and engineering solutions. The centre will focus particularly on sectors such as advanced manufacturing, robotics, and artificial intelligence, helping emerging companies develop new products and services while remaining based in West Cumbria.

Supporters of the project believe it will play a vital role in attracting investment and developing local talent. By creating a dedicated innovation campus, the hub is expected to encourage collaboration between businesses, academic institutions, and industry partners while strengthening the region's reputation as a centre for technological development and engineering excellence.

The approval follows months of planning and consultation and represents another milestone in the long term regeneration of Cleator Moor. Local leaders have welcomed the decision, saying the development will deliver lasting economic benefits while supporting the creation of skilled jobs and helping new businesses establish themselves within the county.

Construction is expected to begin once all remaining preparations are complete. The new industrial hub is anticipated to become a key driver of economic growth, supporting innovation and providing opportunities for entrepreneurs, technology companies, and manufacturers looking to expand in Cumbria over the coming years.
