More Than £14 Million Worth of Drugs Seized in Major Cumbria Police Crackdown
Cumbria Police have announced that more than £14 million-worth of illegal drugs have been seized across the county in the last 12 months, as part of an intensified effort to disrupt serious and organised crime.
The force said the haul was achieved through Operation Alliance, a dedicated programme targeting organised criminal groups and drug supply networks. Officers recovered significant quantities of heroin, cocaine and amphetamine, and closed down a number of industrial-scale cannabis farms during the year.
Police also took action to hit criminals financially, detaining cash and freezing accounts totalling more than £2.7 million as part of their enforcement efforts.
Temporary Detective Chief Superintendent Ian Hussey described the past year’s results as a major success, saying that the work had led to criminals being jailed and huge amounts of dangerous drugs being prevented from entering local communities. He added that the force remains committed to continuing disruption of organised crime in the region.
The seized drugs included:
Cannabis with a street value of approximately £2.1 million.
Cocaine with a street value of around £10.4 million.
Heroin with a street value of about £200,000.
Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner David Allen said the results highlighted the harm drugs cause to families and neighbourhoods and emphasised that removing these substances before they could be sold was a key priority.
Police are continuing to work with partner agencies and are urging members of the public to report any suspicious activity that may help identify ongoing criminal operations in the community.
