Mobile Speed Camera Vans Deployed Across Cumbria Today
Cumbria Police’s road safety camera vans are operating at multiple locations across the county today, Monday, 19 January 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce speeding on major routes.
Drivers should be aware that mobile speed camera vans will be stationed at key points including the A66 east of Penrith, Salterbeck in Workington, Flimby, Bridgefoot, Distington, and along the A595 between Workington and Calder Bridge. These enforcement activities are aimed at encouraging motorists to adhere to posted speed limits and helping to prevent collisions on busy stretches of road.
Mobile speed camera units play an important role in road safety by monitoring vehicle speeds at various locations where speeding is a concern. Officers or certified camera operators use radar and other technology to detect and record vehicles exceeding the legal limits, with the goal of reducing dangerous driving behaviours and the risk of serious accidents.
Members of the public are reminded to always drive within the speed limits and stay alert to road signage indicating camera enforcement zones to avoid penalties.
