Missing Dog Teddy Rescued from Helvellyn After Nearly Three Weeks
A dog named Teddy has been rescued after disappearing on Helvellyn and spending almost three weeks stranded on the Lake District fell.
Teddy went missing on August 2 and was finally found alive on Friday, August 21, after a volunteer searcher heard barking coming from Dry Gill.
Because of the difficult and potentially dangerous location, the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team was called to assist at around 10.20am. Specialist teams from Kenzie’s K9s Animal Search & Rescue and Drone SAR For Lost Dogs UK also supported the operation.
Rescuers reached Teddy and found that, although he appeared to have no obvious injuries, he had lost a considerable amount of weight during his time on the fell.
The dog was given a small amount of food before being safely placed in a rucksack and carried down towards Swirls car park. Around three and a half hours after the rescue operation began, Teddy was reunited with his owner and the person who had originally reported his location. He was then taken on for veterinary attention.
Seven members of the mountain rescue team were involved in the three-and-a-half-hour operation.
The Keswick Mountain Rescue Team described Teddy's safe recovery as a “remarkable outcome” and praised everyone who continued searching for him and refused to give up hope.
