Millom Florist Helps Win Best In Show At Princess Diana Flower Exhibition.
A florist from Millom has helped achieve a major success at a prestigious London flower exhibition after her team won Best in Show for a floral recreation inspired by one of Princess Diana’s most recognisable looks.
Nicola Armstrong, who runs The Bloom Room in Millom, joined florists Donna Cornish from Launceston and Kerrie Raines from The Flower House in Aylesbury to create the design for the Fleurs de Villes DIANA exhibition at Somerset House.
The exhibition featured 15 floral recreations of iconic looks associated with the late Princess Diana. The team was given the challenge of recreating an evening gown designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel, which Diana famously wore on several occasions.
The dress also has a strong connection with charitable work. Diana first saw the gown at a British Red Cross fundraising fashion show in 1986 and later selected it for the organisation's landmark charity auction at Christie's in 1997.
For Nicola and her fellow florists, recreating the dress using flowers required weeks of preparation and detailed planning. The finished design was intended to capture Diana's elegance and beauty while translating the shape and character of the original outfit into a floral artwork. The team's work ultimately received the exhibition's Best in Show award, providing a major achievement for the three florists.
Nicola's involvement adds another achievement to the career of the Millom florist, who previously won UK's Best Retail Florist at the British Flower Association Awards. She runs The Bloom Room on St George's Terrace and has become known for creating distinctive and highly detailed floral arrangements.
Her background in contemporary applied art has also influenced her approach to floristry. Nicola has previously explained that her artistic experience helped her create unusual designs and detailed floral tributes, many of which are made from scratch rather than using standard templates.
The latest award brings together creativity from florists across different parts of the UK and places Millom talent at the centre of an exhibition celebrating one of Britain's best-known royal figures. For Nicola and her team, the Best in Show award marks the culmination of weeks of preparation and provides further recognition for the creativity and craftsmanship behind their floral work.
