Mild Weekend Ahead Before Strong Winds Sweep Across Cumbria
Cumbria is expected to enjoy a much calmer weekend after a damp and showery end to the working week.
Saturday and Sunday are forecast to bring largely dry conditions across the county, with bright spells and temperatures reaching around 17–18°C. The settled weather could provide ideal conditions for those planning walks in the Lake District.
Temperatures are expected to rise further on Monday, with some parts of Cumbria reaching around 21°C. However, winds will gradually strengthen as the weather begins to turn more unsettled.
By Tuesday, strong and blustery conditions are expected to become the main feature, particularly along the Cumbrian coast and over exposed high ground. Coastal areas around Barrow and other exposed locations could experience particularly strong gusts, while rain is expected to return during the afternoon.
Across the county, places including Carlisle, Maryport, Barrow and Workington could reach around 20–21°C on Monday before the unsettled weather arrives.
The latest Lake District mountain forecast also points to generally settled conditions over the weekend, with little wind and mild temperatures, although conditions are expected to become more unsettled as next week progresses.
Residents and visitors planning outdoor activities are therefore being encouraged to make the most of the weekend, while keeping an eye on the forecast as stronger winds and wetter weather develop next week
