Mid-Week Warm Spell Set To Bring Temperatures Up Before Rain Returns.
Cumbria is set for a brief mid-week warm spell, with temperatures expected to rise into the low to mid-20s before a spell of more unsettled weather takes over.
The weather will remain mixed across Cumbria, with coastal areas enjoying brighter conditions while higher ground and eastern parts of the county face a greater chance of showers. Barrow and Whitehaven are expected to reach around 21°C today, while Alston could remain considerably cooler at around 16°C.
Wednesday is expected to bring the warmest conditions of the week, with Carlisle and parts of north Cumbria potentially reaching 24°C. However, cloud will gradually build and rain is expected to spread into the Lake District and southern Cumbria during the afternoon and evening.
The warmer spell will be relatively short-lived, as Thursday is forecast to turn noticeably wetter across the county. Temperatures will remain mild at around 21°C to 22°C, but widespread showers and periods of heavy rain are expected throughout the day.
By Friday, conditions should become cooler and fresher, with temperatures falling back to around 18°C to 19°C. Scattered showers will remain possible, while increasing winds could make the day feel considerably less summery.
Saturday is expected to bring a further drop in temperatures, with highs of around 17°C to 18°C. The day is likely to be largely cloudy and breezy, with occasional light showers particularly affecting southern and western parts of Cumbria. For Barrow, today is expected to remain fine and dry with temperatures reaching around 21°C. Wednesday will stay warm at approximately 22°C before widespread rain arrives on Thursday.
Ulverston is also expected to enjoy a warm Wednesday, with temperatures reaching around 23°C, although heavy rain is forecast to arrive during the afternoon. Windermere should reach approximately 22°C before wetter conditions develop.
Carlisle is expected to experience some of the highest temperatures in the county, reaching close to 24°C on Wednesday. The city should remain largely dry today before the wetter weather moves in later in the week.
The forecast highlights the changeable nature of Cumbria's late-summer weather, with warm sunshine quickly giving way to rain and cooler conditions. Residents and visitors are therefore being advised to be prepared for changing conditions throughout the week. The forecast has been generated using Met Office data, with the latest outlook showing a clear contrast between Wednesday's warmth and the wetter conditions expected from Thursday onwards.
