Man Who Ran Over Woman Leaving Tyre Marks on Her Jeans Sentenced
Cumbria a man has been sentenced after a dangerous driving incident in Stainburn, Workington, in which he ran over a woman who was trying to report his reckless driving leaving tyre marks on her jeans during the collision, a court heard.
Tuan Anh Nguyen, 26, admitted several offences at Carlisle Crown Court relating to the incident on 8 September 2025, including causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road accident, refusing to provide a breath specimen, and driving without insurance.
The court heard that the Jaguar driven by Nguyen had shot out of a residential road and dangerously manoeuvred across traffic before eventually stopping on Moor Road. When a husband and wife in a taxi attempted to intervene, the woman stood by the car’s bonnet but the vehicle sped off, knocking her back and then driving over her leg and hip as it fled the scene.
The victim was left with multiple injuries, including a pelvic fracture, a blood clot in her abdomen and concussion, and required around eight weeks to recover, during which time she could not work and suffered financial hardship due to her business being affected.
Recorder Julian Shaw described Nguyen’s actions as “extraordinarily dangerous” and showing clear disregard for the safety of others. Nguyen, of Cherry Tree Drive in Stainburn, was handed a two‑year jail sentence suspended for two years, ordered to complete 300 hours of unpaid work, and disqualified from driving for three years during which time he must also pass an extended driving test. He was also fined £600 in compensation to the victim.
The case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of dangerous driving and the importance of drivers taking responsibility for the safety of other road users.
