Man sentenced over multiple offences after Whitehaven incident
A man has been sentenced after appearing in court in connection with a series of offences linked to an incident in Whitehaven late last year.
The incident took place in the Mirehouse area on December 15, when police were alerted by concerned members of the public. Officers responded to the scene and encountered the suspect, who attempted to flee.
Following a brief foot pursuit through the area, the man identified as Ross Hardy was apprehended and taken into custody.
At a recent magistrates’ court hearing, Hardy faced multiple charges, including possession of cocaine and other Class A drugs, as well as cannabis and a Class C substance. He was also charged with carrying a sharp, pointed article in a public place.
The court handed him a 12-week custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months. He was additionally ordered to complete a three-month drug rehabilitation programme and pay costs along with a statutory surcharge.
Police said the case highlights ongoing efforts to tackle drug-related offences and maintain public safety in the area.
