Man Faces Multiple Charges Following Arrest in Penrith
A man in his 40s from Sunderland has been charged with a series of offences, including multiple counts of theft and an assault, after being arrested in Penrith on Friday.
According to a spokesperson for Eden Police, the suspect is accused of stealing items from Sainsbury’s and Morrisons stores in Penrith, as well as committing common assault. Officers have also linked him to three further theft offences in the North East region.
The defendant remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear before North Cumbria Magistrates’ Court today (Saturday, January 31) to face the charges.
Police praised the swift response from retail security teams, noting that the use of the shop‑watch radio network helped officers locate and detain the man while he was still inside one of the stores.
