Man Banned From Carlisle City Centre For Two Years After Admitting Three Assaults
A Carlisle man has been banned from the city centre for two years after admitting three assault offences, including assaulting an emergency worker.
Lewis Grierson, aged 21 and from Carlisle, was handed a two year Criminal Behaviour Order at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on September 3.
The order was secured by Cumbria Police’s Carlisle neighbourhood policing team following Grierson’s guilty pleas to two assaults and one assault on an emergency worker.
Grierson is due to return to court on October 1, when he is expected to be sentenced for the offences to which he has pleaded guilty.
The Criminal Behaviour Order places restrictions on where Grierson can go, with the main condition preventing him from entering Carlisle city centre.
Under the terms of the order, he is prohibited from entering the city centre unless he is attending a pre arranged appointment or travelling on public transport.
The restrictions are intended to remain in place for two years, meaning Grierson will face the conditions throughout that period unless the order is otherwise changed.
Police have warned that breaching the conditions of a Criminal Behaviour Order is a serious offence and can result in a prison sentence.
A breach of the order carries a potential punishment of up to five years in prison, underlining the consequences of failing to comply with its conditions.
Officers are now asking members of the public to report any suspected breaches of the order if they witness Grierson entering restricted areas without an permitted reason.
Cumbria Police has urged anyone who witnesses Grierson breaching the conditions to contact officers immediately so the alleged breach can be dealt with appropriately.
The order follows the conclusion of the latest court proceedings and comes ahead of Grierson’s return to court for sentencing on the three assault offences.
The restrictions mean that, while Grierson can still enter Carlisle city centre for pre arranged appointments or while using public transport, other entry is prohibited under the order.
Police have used the Criminal Behaviour Order as part of measures secured by the Carlisle neighbourhood policing team following the offences admitted by Grierson.
Anyone who sees Grierson apparently breaching the conditions of the order is being asked to contact police without delay, allowing officers to investigate the suspected breach.
