Major Road Closures and Parking Restrictions Planned in Barrow
Residents and motorists in Barrow-in-Furness are being advised to prepare for disruption as a series of road closures and parking restrictions are scheduled as part of planned building works.
According to official notices, the restrictions will affect several streets, including Foundry Street, Lumley Street, and Pottery Street, where access will be limited or completely closed at certain points. The measures are being introduced to allow essential construction work to be carried out safely.
Under the plans, parts of Foundry Street will be closed to vehicles, while additional rules will prevent waiting, loading, and unloading on surrounding roads. These restrictions will apply to all drivers, including those with blue badges, highlighting the scale of the changes.
Authorities have confirmed that alternative routes will be clearly signposted, with diversions expected to guide traffic through nearby roads such as Marsh Street and the A5087. Pedestrian access and routes for cyclists will remain open throughout the works.
The temporary traffic order is set to come into effect from May 1, 2026, and could remain in place for an extended period while construction continues, although restrictions will only apply when signage is displayed.
Local officials say the measures are necessary to ensure both public safety and the smooth progress of the project. However, drivers are being urged to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys as disruption is expected.
The development highlights ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure in Barrow, though it is likely to bring short term inconvenience for residents and commuters navigating the affected areas.
