M6 Driver Appears in Court After Nearly £180,000 Found in Vehicle
A man has appeared in a Cumbria court after police found a large sum of money in his vehicle during a stop on the M6 motorway in north Cumbria.
Thirty-one-year-old Charles Young, from London, was arrested by officers in the Carlisle area while travelling back from Scotland.
Prosecutors told Carlisle Magistrates’ Court that a rucksack discovered behind a passenger seat contained four sealed bags of mixed English and Scottish banknotes. The total value of the cash was estimated at £179,550.
Young is charged with one count alleging that he acquired, used or possessed criminal property. During the brief hearing he did not enter a plea to the allegation.
No further details have been released at this stage, and the case is expected to return to court in the coming weeks as enquiries continue.
