Lights Of Lowther To Bring New Winter Trail To Lowther Castle
Lowther Castle and Gardens will welcome a spectacular new winter light trail this festive season, creating an illuminated experience for visitors.
Called Lights of Lowther, the new attraction will transform the castle grounds into an illuminated wonderland, combining colourful displays, music and festive entertainment. The experience is designed to showcase the distinctive character of the historic estate, with visitors following a specially created trail through the grounds during selected evenings across the festive season.
The trail will launch on November 14, marking the start of a new seasonal attraction at Lowther. Visitors will follow a route through the castle grounds, where a series of installations and immersive displays will create different illuminated scenes as they make their way through the estate.
The experience will feature towering trees illuminated in different colours alongside the dramatic Gothic ruins of Lowther Castle. Organisers say the combination of the historic surroundings and specially designed lighting installations will create an evening experience celebrating the distinctive beauty of the Lowther estate.
Visitors will encounter sparkling woodland pathways and a range of immersive displays as they progress along the trail. The route has been designed to provide a relaxed evening experience, allowing people to explore the grounds while taking in the lights, music and festive atmosphere surrounding the attraction.
The event is intended to appeal to visitors of all ages, with the winter trail combining the visual displays with seasonal activities and refreshments. Guests will be able to spend time exploring the illuminated grounds while also enjoying some of the additional festive features planned throughout the experience.
Seasonal food and drink will be available during the evenings, providing visitors with opportunities to warm up while spending time at the attraction. The experience will also include open fires where guests can toast marshmallows, adding another traditional element to the winter setting.
Music will form another part of the experience, contributing to the atmosphere as visitors move through the trail. The combination of music, lighting, food and outdoor activities is intended to create a festive evening rather than simply a display of illuminated installations.
Lights of Lowther will operate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings throughout the festive season. Additional dates will also be available during the weeks either side of Christmas, giving visitors several opportunities to experience the trail during the busiest part of the winter celebrations.
Entry will be managed through pre-booked tickets and timed admission slots. Organisers say this approach is intended to provide visitors with a relaxed and enjoyable experience by managing the number of people entering the trail at different times during each evening.
Tickets are already available, with admission priced at £20 for adults and £15 for children. A family ticket costs £65 and covers either two adults and three children or one adult with up to four children, providing several options for groups planning a festive visit.
Annual pass holders will also have the opportunity to receive a discount when booking their Lights of Lowther tickets. They can create an account and receive 10 per cent off their ticket purchases, providing an additional benefit for existing pass holders who want to attend the new winter attraction.
The new trail will make use of the wider Lowther Castle setting, combining the estate's woodland areas with the distinctive remains of the castle itself. This setting provides the backdrop for the illuminated installations and allows the event to make use of both natural and historic features within the grounds.
The introduction of Lights of Lowther adds a new festive experience to the estate's programme, with the attraction specifically designed around evening visits during the winter season. Its scheduled run across weekends and the period surrounding Christmas gives visitors the chance to plan visits around the wider festive calendar.
For families and other visitors planning to attend, the timed entry system means tickets need to be arranged in advance. The different adult, child and family ticket options provide choices for different group sizes, while annual pass holders can access the additional 10 per cent discount available through the booking system.
