Life-Saving Defibrillator Installed at West Cumbrian Community Centre

19 Apr 2026 Life-Saving Defibrillator Installed at West Cumbrian Community Centre

A life-saving defibrillator has been installed at the Time to Change Centre on Haig Enterprise Park in Kells, Whitehaven, West Cumbria, in a move aimed at improving public safety and emergency response in the area.

The centre hosts several local organisations and community groups, including Together We, Calderwood House, Citizens Advice Copeland, Knit and Natter, and Silent Footprints. The new equipment is expected to benefit everyone using or visiting the facility.

Community representatives welcomed the installation, describing it as an important step in making the centre a safer space. They highlighted that the device could play a crucial role in saving lives during medical emergencies, particularly cardiac arrests where rapid response is essential.

The defibrillator is part of a wider initiative led by the Morley family, who have installed around 50 such units across the region in memory of their son Billy, who tragically died in 2024 at a venue without access to a defibrillator.

Working alongside the North West Ambulance Service, the family identified key locations where emergency equipment was most needed, ensuring better coverage in public spaces and community hubs.

Organisers involved in the installation expressed gratitude for the support received, noting that the addition strengthens community resilience and could make a critical difference in emergency situations.

The project continues to expand across the region, aiming to ensure more public places are equipped with accessible life-saving technology.
