Lake District Walker Rescued After Knee Injury on Ullswater Trail
A Lake District walker was rescued on Saturday afternoon after sustaining a knee injury that left them unable to continue their route around Ullswater.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team was called by Cumbria Police at around 3.35 pm on February 7 to assist the casualty. The walker had taken an Ullswater steamer to Howtown and was returning to Glenridding on foot when the injury occurred.
The injured person was in significant pain and could only move a few metres before becoming unable to bear weight on the affected leg. Rescue team members made their way across the lake on the team’s rescue RIB, Patrick Pete, to reach the walker.
Upon arrival, the casualty was treated by the team’s remote rescue medical technician. The walker’s leg was splinted and pain relief administered at the scene. They were then carefully placed onto a stretcher and carried down to the shoreline, where they were transported to Glenridding pier. From there, they were taken to hospital for further assessment and treatment alongside their companions.
