Lake District Shuttle Bus Returns for Summer Season

03 May 2026 Lake District Shuttle Bus Returns for Summer Season

A seasonal shuttle bus service connecting key destinations in the Lake District has officially returned for the summer period, providing visitors and residents with an easy and low-cost travel option.

The 77C route, operated by Stagecoach, will run between Cockermouth and Buttermere every Saturday, Sunday, and bank holiday until August 31. The service aims to ease congestion in the popular tourist area while improving access to scenic locations.

Buses depart from Main Street in Cockermouth several times throughout the day, starting at 9:30am, with return journeys from Buttermere running at regular intervals. An additional late evening service operates on Saturdays.

Fares have been kept affordable, with single tickets priced at £3, while young children and concessionary pass holders can travel free of charge. The service also accepts wider Stagecoach ticket options, allowing passengers to connect easily with other routes across the region.

Transport officials say the shuttle plays an important role in promoting sustainable travel in the Lake District, encouraging people to leave their cars behind and enjoy the natural beauty of the area without adding to traffic pressures.

The return of the shuttle bus is expected to boost tourism while offering a practical and environmentally friendly way to explore one of the UK’s most visited national parks.
