Lake District Scrambler Taken To Hospital After Mountain Rescue.

A scrambler was taken to hospital after suffering a foot injury while navigating difficult terrain near Keswick.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team and a Coastguard helicopter were called to Beckthorns Gill, near Keswick, at around 5.50pm on Monday, August 24. Two people had been scrambling up the gill when one of them sustained a foot injury, leaving them unable to continue and in a precarious position.

The pair contacted emergency services for assistance. Due to the challenging nature of the terrain, a Coastguard helicopter was requested to support the rescue. However, the helicopter was unable to winch the casualties directly from the location because of the surrounding technical terrain.

Keswick Mountain Rescue Team members then established a rope rescue system, allowing two team members to be lowered down to reach and assist the pair.

The helicopter subsequently landed nearby to conserve fuel while the rescue team worked to safely extract the casualties. The injured person was assessed by rescuers before being assisted to the helicopter, which then transported them to hospital for further treatment. 

The second scrambler was not injured and was safely escorted off the hill by members of Keswick Mountain Rescue Team. The incident highlights the challenges faced by rescue teams when responding to emergencies in the steep and technical terrain of the Lake District.
