Lake District Santa’s Grotto Returns As Tickets Sell Fast.

07 Sep 2026 Lake District Santa’s Grotto Returns As Tickets Sell Fast.

A popular Christmas attraction in the Lake District is set to return, with Santa’s Grotto tickets selling quickly as families look to secure their festive visits.

The Santa’s Secret Grotto experience at Honister Slate Mine, near Keswick, has become a popular seasonal attraction, welcoming families into the historic mine for a Christmas adventure unlike a traditional grotto.

The experience takes visitors through the underground mine tunnels, where they are guided by Santa’s elves before reaching a hidden winter wonderland and meeting Santa himself. The attraction first launched in 2022 and has continued to attract families from across the UK.

The festive experience has also featured additional activities designed to make the visit more memorable. In previous years, Honister introduced an underground sledging adventure, adding another element of excitement to the journey through the mine.

The attraction's setting is one of its biggest features. Located high in the Lake District at Honister Pass, the grotto combines the area's dramatic mountain scenery with an underground Christmas experience, giving visitors a different way to celebrate the festive season.

Families who have previously attended have praised the experience for its atmosphere, detailed decorations and interaction with Santa and the elves. One visitor described it as one of the best Santa experiences they had attended, highlighting the themed mine, staff and overall atmosphere.

With demand already building and tickets selling fast, families interested in visiting the attraction are being encouraged to book early to avoid missing out. The return of Santa’s Grotto is expected to provide another major festive attraction for the Lake District, combining Christmas entertainment with the unique surroundings and history of Honister Slate Mine.
