Lake District hotel’s stuffed badger returns home

Lake District hotel’s stuffed badger returns home

A stuffed badger that went missing during a staff night out in Ambleside has been safely returned.
Staff from the Glen Rothay and Badger Bar had taken the 100 year old badger, affectionately known as Bertie, to the White Lion Hotel for their Christmas party. However, Bertie disappeared last Sunday, December 8, after being taken by a group of men while staff were out of the room.
Police later issued an appeal for the badger’s return, with South Lakes Police confirming that CCTV footage was being reviewed to identify those responsible.
Bertie was returned to the Badger Bar last night, Friday December 12, much to the relief of staff and regulars.
In a light hearted social media post, the Glen Rothay and Badger Bar announced his return, saying Bertie had “just staggered back through the front door”.
They added that he appeared to have enjoyed himself, with his hat and tinsel missing, but said he had clearly been well looked after.
The post thanked everyone who shared Bertie’s story and helped spread the word, adding that the publicity played a key role in his return. Visitors have been invited to see Bertie back in his usual spot beside the bar when the venue reopens at Christmas.
